WONDERboom are one of South Africa’s longest-lived rock bands and also one of the
most successful.
During their fourteen years as a
band they have released 7 albums, headlined every major SA festival, been
nominated for 5 SAMA’s (South African
Music Awards), and won a Kanna Award
and People Crystal Award in 2003 for
South Africa’s hottest band. They
also won the South African leg of the 2004
Global Battle of the Bands and came
second worldwide, all while maintaining the level of music that audiences
love.
Like any great live act, WONDERboom
works because of its perfect mix of charismatic individuals. In between
preening 70’s glam stars and snarling like punks, you’ll find the irresistible riot
and colour that is WONDERboom.
There can be few South African music fans that
aren’t familiar with their hits, like Never Ever, Jafta Rebel, Something Wrong,
Africa, Charlie, It’s Great to be
Alive and Best Side. The last of these, shot off their 7th album,
City of Gold to the top of the 5FM charts.
With a keen eye on what the
crowds want, and an ever-inventive approach to their music, WONDERboom has developed longevity in
the top echelons of South African music that few bands can aspire to. As long as there’s a crowd to rock and a
socket to plug an amp into, they’re set to remain the sexiest, funkiest and
most obvious choice to get any party started… Seldom does a band deliver such
passion, commitment and quality melodic music mixed with a compelling sense of
originality.
WONDERboom are about to release, The Automatic Shuffle, which is set to reach new heights in sound.
Discography:
1998: released “Is It?” (a six track EP yielding cult favourites such as “Green Fever”, “Jafta Rebel”, “She Cries” and “No Left Turn Unstoned”)
2000: released ‘Never Ever’ and supported American rockers, Live, on their Distance To Here tour.
2001: Released hit single “Charlie”, the cross-over Kwaito-Rock that went to number 1 on 5fm.
2002: Released the album “Rewind”, (tribute to South African music)
2003: Released “Tell Someone Who Cares” (A full length album)
2004: Released “Hoekom” (an Afrikaans album)
2005: Released “All Hits” (Best of Album including 4 new tracks, DVD footage including Global Battle of the Bands 2004 footage and videos)
2006: Released “City of Gold”
